12 Teams | 10 Hitters Per Team [5 Active = HR RBI SB R OBP] | 12 Pitchers Per Team [5 Active = SV ERA WHIP SO QS]

This is how I've got my league setup. But this is not how everyone drafts. We have 10 active hitter spots. Some people are old school and draft more hitters than are needed and put them on the bench. Some people are pitcher heavy and fill up their bench (6 spots) leading to a staff of 9 starters (I fall into this category). In this past this has been a 10 team league so people drafting 3 RP was not out of the question. Now I think some might draft an extra starter with 12 teams this year. Active pitching slots are SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P (6 total).

How should I setup the league to account for this variability in draft style to maximize my Value settings on draft day? Should I increase the number of hitters to 11? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Here are the recommended settings for your league:

# of Hitters = 10 (use the active count since the top players are typically always active and the bench not).

# of Pitchers = 10 (Your 6 active plus 4 of your 6 bench spots since typically bench pitchers are able to be active when they pitch).

Does this make the rankings closer to your expected? If you feel pitchers are still overvalued, you could adjust them up to 11 which assumes average bench of 5 pitchers.

I still don't understand how this works.

My league starts ten hitters, and 2SP 2RP 3P.  Most people draft only 1 bench hitter. (23 total players on roster)

So I set # of Hitters to 11, and # of Pitchers to 12.  I also increased starting positions for pitchers to 9 SP and 3RP.

Does this sound like what I should do?

I would set your hitters to the active count of 10 since the bench hitter will typically only play when a starter gets hurt. Set the # of Pitchers to 12 since that includes your starters/bench with the assumption that benched pitchers will be active when they pitch. The goal is to set the # of Hitters and # of Pitchers to the number that actually play full-time.

Curiously, it doesn't seem to alter the projections at all, whichever way I set it.

So, if I set hitters to 10, the actual number of starters, and pitchers to 12 (the number of pitchers I expect to be on my roster most weeks),

Do I leave the boxes for active pitchers to be the actual number of starters, OR, the number of pitchers I expect to be on the roster most weeks (H2H)?

(I'm assuming the latter?)

As an aside, how does this account for the 1 extra player that is not in the number of hitters/pitchers?

The Values should change as you alter the # of Hitters and # of Pitchers though the player order may not change.

For the active roster spots, set those to the actual settings of your league.  These will be used during the season more than now.

The extra player not in your # of Hitters/Pitchers won't affect anything since the goal of those settings is to get accurate Values.  We'll likely add a # of Bench setting just to make things clearer.

Hi BBM,

In Yahoo! I see  Saves + Holds (SV+H) and here I see  Saves + Holds (SV+0.35H)

Does that change anything?

We have a category called "Saves plus Holds" too.

Thaks Ken.

Next question is, how would I add the other positions of BN x 6 DL x 2 and an NA.  I don't even know what NA means. Doesn't look like there is a field in the league setting for that.

Roster Positions:C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL, NA

I would go with 10 hitters (10 starters), 12 pitchers (9 starters + 3 bench). The DL doesn't need to be included, and I'm not sure what NA is either.

Nice tip Ken.  Its going to be 6 Benches and I read what NA is.  Its basically a spot to hold NA players such as players before call up or players on paternal leave or players before hitting the DL or in rehab.  Kind of like the IR spot in basketball. I guess I can put it up as a Bench too.

As for the formula on calculating % of bench play, what should I use?

Also I'm drafting on ROTO so what is the best way to optimize the tool in check boxes.

FYI draft in 4 hours so I need any pro tips soon confused

Thank you.

Johnathan Y.

For % Bench, I would use 50% and make sure to Mark All Pitchers active when importing your team.

Thanks Ken,

I'm assuming I would make all hitter active too? or should I only select the ones that are above the z-score of 0 and have the below z-score 0 as benched.  Keep in mind this is ROTO with 162 games limited per postilions and 1700 innings pitch for pitchers.

Looking to take home 1-3 this year and was 1 point away last year.

Thanks in advance.

You want all of your normal starting hitters to be marked active and the rest of the hitters bench.

Hey guys, idk if you play yahoo fantasy baseball, but it seems that when using league settings you cant import IBB for batters and IBB and GIDP for P's on baseball monster, is anyone else having this problem/know if I am missing something?

Any chance we can add punt columns in daily projections.

It gets a little crowded, but we can look at adding punting to a few pages.

Any chance we can have a write up on hitters and pitchers for potential sleepers and prospect call up that we should be on a look-out for?
