The reason I use them is that it's an "orginal statistic", i.e., one of the basic statistical building blocks that have been around since time immemorial: Hits and/or singles, walks, strikeouts, doubles, triples, home runs, sacrifice hits (bunts), sacrifice flies, stolen bases, batting average, runs scored, runs batted in for batters; wins, losses, saves, strikeouts, ERA, the newly designed "WHIP" (which might be the exception), shutouts, complete games, no-hitters, perfect games, balks, and batters hit by a pitch for pitchers. It is from these basic budiling blocks that I form the UCL 11-by-11 system.
