Someone in my league just dropped him, I have the #1 waiver claim at the moment.  Am I missing something or is this an automatic move?

Yes, that sounds like an easy choice. His BABIP this season is 0.356 which is much higher than his normal 0.270 meaning he's had some bad luck.  He still has a high k-rate (about 1 per inn) and a low walk rate.

I'm a n00b to this stuff and had him in a trade and then re-gained my senses when I saw he still has a high K rate.

I wanted to improve my team's *SBV* and RV.

Trade #1:

Strasburg + Corey Dickerson + Dustin Pedroia for Dee Gordon.

The guy countered (he is wacko) and wanted Bryce Harper + Pedroia which I turned down immediately as I re-gained my senses.

Trade #2:

Strasburg + Corey Dickerson + Dustin Pedroia for Jacoby Ellsbury.

Once I got the counter for trade #1, I canceled both offers.  The trade #2 guy came back the next day and proposed the same offer back to me listing his dropped players.  I thanked him for his reply and let him know I'll be going in a different direction.  I'm going for RV and RBI or another cat.  I still value SBV, but am not going for it.  If it's there, it's there.
