In an email, Ken told me that they won't be offering memberships for DFS this season, but they'll have some free things available.  The specifics would be clearer once we get closer to season starting.

I'm sure everyone had no issue with Paying for the DFS subscription each year... BBM has been a key part of my Daily MLB research for the past few years... would hate to not have it available each day.

I doubt there will be any DFS projections as part of the free features.  They require constant attention, and the data to support them is quite expensive.

As far as why we're not offering memberships, it makes more sense to concentrate on improving the basketball site since it's much larger.

We had MLB Cheat Sheets last year, and we'll have them again this year.

Similar info that was available here at BBM, with wOBA, ISO, Hard Contact for each Hitter vs the SP Hand each day with our own
all encompassing "Rating" each day.

Wow!  I am officially in morning.  Hands down this was the best site for MLB DFS.  No site quite like it that displayed sortable data.  Have not found a replacement.  In my opinion will be tough to play MLB DFS without it.  Understand the time commitment it must take to keep site up to date.  Hope there is a change of heart.  Thanks!

Ken, will the projections be of the same quality as recent years when it was subscription based? Would be awesome to know before I possibly use the projections for today's slate and forward. :)

As others said, would be more than willing to pay if it helps the quality.

The only change from last season is I'll be relying on our data provider for prompt lineups.  I believe it'll be timely, and I'll adjust if it's not.

The catch is I can stop any time if it's too much work :)

I was going to just shut it down, but I believe it can be mostly automated during the day so I'll give that a shot.  I'll prepare lineups/projections in the morning, and then projections will be updated as lineups arrive.  Here's a better list of what the differences may be:

• If projected starters are ruled out due to injury, the projected lineup may not change until a verified lineup arrives.
• As mentioned before, I'm relying on our data provider, SportRadar, for lineups so it may be slower on the days the site's not actively monitored.
• Canceled games may be be reported as quickly.
• Change in SP may not take effect as quickly.

There may be other unforeseen issues, but I expect to have everything sorted out this week.  For now, things are being monitored the same as last season.

Ken,

Do the team totals being off negatively affect the projections? For example, Cle/Tex is at 7.5 on the DFS projection page, however the total has been at 8 for quite some time now. Is this just 'for show' or is the fact it's not up-to-date a bad thing projection wise?

The odds do affect the projections.  I see it's currently at 8.  It's possible the odds on the DFS page refresh when the page is re-entered, and if you've been on there a while, the odds may be static.  Does that sound possible?

Ken, thank you very much for reconsidering running the DFS projections. I know there are a lot of other projection sites and lineup builder sites out there, but in my opinion the layout BBM has is second to none. I was really thinking about either scaling back my DFS play or not playing at all this year if the site wasn't going to be available. Thank you!

I think the ISO numbers for offensive players may be incorrect. Looked at a few grandal/gattis. their ISO against handedness dosent look correct. i'm using 2014-2016 and 2015-2106. trying to match these doing queries from fangraphs. thanks, john

I added 2017 data and adjusted the year filters so I believe they're correct.  I did compare with FanGraphs and ISO's were the same.  We must use a little different formula for wOBA since those were only close.

Previously, the filters were likely a year off so two year was 2016-17 rather than 2015-16.

I'm assuming that he doesn't want to charge so that he is tied to providing a quality product.  There is a lot of responsibility to make sure things are up to date and accurate when providing a product.   I would like to propose an alternative. put a donate button up to cover cost and surplus can go to a charity with a full disclaimer that service could end at any time and updates are dependent on provider and may be delayed   Or any donation of x amount gets a y discount to basketball monster.    The minimum  thing you should be doing if you offer it for free is to gather emails for basketball   

Again, I'm willing to chip in for expenses with no expectations of quality or duration.  It's a hobby for me. And I'm willing to support the work

Yes, charging $ would commit me to watching the site all summer, and that's unlikely.  I believe it'll work well in automated mode, and here are the issues to still sort out:

Manual tasks performed each morning:

• Check lineups for the day (pretty much making sure all injured players are out of the lineups).
• Check starting pitchers.

During the day, everything runs automatically with these exceptions:

• Team changes probable pitcher (currently needs to be manually updated).
• Team changes a published lineup (this works but there's typically a delay).
• Player is called up that has no projection (one needs to be added).
• Player is ruled out after the default lineup has been set so the default is incorrect until real lineup arrives.

Another idea is to provide for anybody that pre registers to basketball monsters.  Again. With the fact that it is known that it is not a paid product itself. Just access of what is available.

If and when you choose to "no longer watch the site" this summer, which is understandable, can you please at least let all of us know? Or perhaps even just get rid of the DFS page? My concern is you stopping what you're doing and then people (myself included) inadvertently using 'bad' projections that you've just let sit. Knowing you and the quality you stand behind, this wouldn't happen, but just wanted to mention this.

For however long you keep the product up, thank you!

The process is still the same as the beginning of the year where I update projections and set starters/default lineups each morning.  During the day it's mostly automated as new lineups arrive.  I may have to manually add new players or change SP, but otherwise it's automated.

Where do the daily projections come from?

I have decent results in my season-longs by importing projections from frangraphs.  Your tool is very useful in that regard, and it's fun to use for DFS, but I can't figure out why lately, I'm having so much trouble.
