Teixeira has strained right wrist and will miss 8 to 10 weeks. Girardi said Teixeira will rest for 4 weeks and then begin rehabbing the injury

Mark Teixeira is in Tampa. He said his injury was to the tendon sheath and raised the possibility he could miss all of May.

Some in the industry, however, are skeptical that Teixeira will meet the Yankees’ timetable and return in early May. Teixeira addressed the issue Thursday in a conference call with reporters. “The doctors made it very clear to me that that they aren’t going to let me swing until it’s 100 percent pain-free,” Teixeria said. “However long that takes, we don’t know. “That’s why we had the conservative 8 to 10 weeks. But we really don’t know how long it’s going to take before I can swing pain-free.” The recovery time, if Teixeira eventually required surgery, obviously would be longer. “I can’t rule that out,” Cashman said of surgery, “But it’s not something has been discussed.” The prognosis could change, Cashman conceded, if Teixeira does not recover through rest and rehabilitation.

With Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) facing the possibility of requiring season-ending surgery, the team indicated it will not make a decision until at least May as his recovery timetable winds down, the New York Post reports. Teixeira is expected to be sidelined for the next eight to 10 weeks with a partially torn sheath of the tendon in his right wrist. There is roughly a 25-30 percent chance he needs surgery. "The time frame hasn’t changed," general manager Brian Cashman said Monday. "If we knew he wouldn't be back, it would be a different story. But for now, we’re going to play it out."

Is he worth holding on to? I guess I can stash him in IR.

Absolutely use your DL slot. We'll see what news comes in May.

I drafted Tex in the 20th round intending to put him on IR. but with no DL tag he had to go. If u can put him on IR then sure u should do it. Until u need the slot for a shorter term or clearer term DL guy. Or until Tex gets surgery and goes out all year. Or until Tex returns in May. Maybe u need to find a 3 sided coin?
