Pick 12

In a league that we can keep between 6-12 that's turning into a dynasty league. It's 12 teams and deep rosters (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, LF, CF, RF, OF, UTIL, UTIL, SP, SP, RP, RP, and 4 P, plus 6 benches, 2 DL, and 1 NA). I'm trying to make some deals, but basically I need to pick 12 from:

Freeman, Miggy, Han-Ram, Altuve, Encarnacion, Miguel Sano, Christian Yelich, Brandon Phillips, Josh Donaldson, Carlos Gomez, George Springer, Felix Hernandez, David Price, Greg Holland, James Shields, Taijuan Walker, Matt Garza, and Kevin Gausman.

Right now I'm looking at these 11 (in bold), but don't feel good about letting a lot of those guys back into the player pool. Also not sure who to keep out of the bunch either. Thoughts?

Five players with distinctly different draws for that last spot, eh? Last season's over-achiever (Donaldson), safe but boring MI (Altuve), closer (Holland), safe SP (Shields), and dynasty play (Gausman). If you are turning into dynasty next season, then maybe you go Gausman? Figure more youth is kept this season in anticipation of the rule change?

Eventhough Sano's Tommy John surgery doesn't make much of a difference from a keeper perspective, I'm starting to wonder if I should not keep him (redraft him early if possible) and keep two of the remaining guys. This is a ROTO league so the better balance I have the better off I should be.

I would agree. Donaldson would have been my choice before the injury. I also like Altuve. It depends on how your league works and what your opponents value. Some leagues are so youth crazy that they start taking AAA players in round 5. Yes, that will get you Trout and Harper, but you also get Desmond Jennings and Brett Lawrie and miss Dustin Pedroia or Matt Holliday.
