What's the right way to think about using the Value metric vs. the POSV metric?

I have always just used Value in the past, but curious as to how to interpret POSV

It's a tough stat to look at, because it can be interpreted either way. For instance in most standard leagues catcher will have the highest positional adjustment. Does this mean you should reach for Buster Posey at get a quality catcher early, or simply lead someone to believe that the difference in a crappy catcher vs a good catcher is so minimal that you shouldn't put much into it?

To me, I'm not putting a ton into POSV only because I think every draft turns into its own demon and you get runs on certain players at different times etc.

Yan Gomes a potential sleeper catcher for example is ranked in the 26th round (20 team with OPS and holds for my league) in Value, but would be a 13th round player if you look at positional value. To me, I'm clearly not drafting Gomes in 13th round though.

Ok, sounds good, thanks for the reply. I have used the regular value metric in the past and has worked pretty well. Just curious really.

For me, I do give some credence to posv, especially for 2B and SS.  With catchers, inconsistency is what gives position scarcity a bad name lately -- injuries, unreliable offense year to year -- position scarcity all of a sudden doesn't matter.  i think it's still important.

fact is there is a huge difference between top middle infield and #12.  And there isn't the same inconsistency (though I always seem to draft tulo on bad years).  And it is important to acknowledge there are stacked positions like 1B.

so I take regular value and position value into account, just like I take per game and total value into account.
