In dynasty and redraft leagues, there should be a discussion about rookie/young pitchers who have not undergone TJ surgery. Are they worth a keeper or high draft pick? Seems like one runs the HIGH risk of losing an ace for the year example: Matt Harvey, Kris Medlen, now Jose Fernandez.

What do you guys think?

I'm not sure it's something you can plan for. Both Brandon Beachy and Kyle Medlen had their second Tommy John surgeries this year so when do you assume it's safe to own a pitcher?

I agree it's not something that can be planned for.  However, is it worth the risk.  It appears as though TJ surgery is becoming more of a right of passage nowadays.  It is an additional factor you take into account, you ask yourself, "Did this guy have TJ surgery?" before drafting or keeping him.

Bumping this topic as news has it that Yu Darvish is recommended to have TJ surgery.  The TJ factor seems to hit more and more top shelf pitchers making it a risky early draft pick if the pitcher did not have TJ surgery yet.  See Jose Fernandez of last year.
