My league is a little different as we have 12 categories. Runs/Rbi's/Stl's/Hr's/Avg/Obp and W's/Quality starts/era/whip/saves/k's. I have the #2 pick in a 12 team league. We also have MI/CI 4 outfielders and 2 utility spots. 13 active hitters and 12 active pitchers. With most sites ranking based just on standard 5x5 is there any key strategy that I can exploit here? Obp and quality starts are the 2 cats I think I can gain an edge on over my leaguemates. To sum things up it's a pretty deep league with good owners so I'm looking for any edge I can get. Any and all advice would be great. Is stanton #2 getting too cute, I feel it's way easier to find some speed on the wire. Thanks guys!

With your settings (OBP), McCutchen looks like the clear #2. The pitching favors SP since you include QS. Is this roto or H2H?

It is head 2 head. We can stream pitchers as well, 65 move limit on the season though so can't get too crazy.

It looks like you have the same settings as descender in this thread, and he did well with his strategy:

I don't see a "descender" are you referring to Holty's punt power strategy?

I think he meant https://baseballmonster.com/MessageTopic.aspx?topic=1036

If you can't derive the info you are looking for from that thread let me know, and definitely post more details about your league settings (full roster size, IP limits, etc).  I'll look at it and tell you how I would set it up.  That's the best advice I can offer... how I've set things up for myself in the past... I've won enough leagues using this website to feel confident in sharing my experiences too ;)

Just a cursory glance at your settings, punt wins but leave QS in there to keep SP's value up compared to RP's.  That will focus you on pitcherd that pitch to clean ERA/WHIPs... which should naturally result in more W's and QS's.  It devalues pitchers that only have high win totals because of their offense.  I don't particularly believe in punting offense, I'd always prefer a balanced team to compensate for injuries... but you could probably punt SB's pretty safely since it's H2H.  Holty was punting power (2 cats) but i can't personally recommend that.  IMO it requires too much to go right in the draft to pull off consistently.  Drafting pitching early is scary enough, and if enough of those SB guys you were banking on get snatched up early... the entire plan is kind of shot.

Really appreciate the in depth response descender! Is there a way to easily just post my league settings instead of typing them all out?

26 man roster w/ 2 dl spots and 2 bench spots.

13 active hitters C,1st,2nd,3rd,SS,MI,CI,OF,OF,OF,OF,UTIL,UTIL

11 active pitchers 4 SP, 2 RP and 5 P so lots of flexibility.

No innings cap or anything like that, we just have a 65 moves per season limit. I'm not too thrilled about the idea of punting power because well fantasy is supposed to be fun and hr's are the most exciting thing in baseball. Keep in mind I have 2nd pick, who would you target with 2nd/3rd picks?

Your settings are really kind of wide open and I would not consider myself a H2H expert.  Maybe someone else can chime in here with better suggestions :)

You only have 2 real bench spots so... you probably want 1 OF and 1 IF to cover injuries during the season, and then you dump them for an extra starter during the playoffs.  You are going to want at least 8 SP's and 3 closers, and I would set the active positions according to how many you intend to draft instead of using the P spots.  You should consistently win 5 of your 6 pitching categories every week if you draft a little heavy on starters.
