I can only carry 10 starting pitchers into the playoffs and I have 11. Who should I drop? Dallas Keuchel Steven Matz Felix Hernandez James Shields Johnny Cueto Francisco Liriano Luis Severino Hisashi Iwakuma Lance McCullers Scott Kazmir ?Micheal Pineda 0% Agree (0 votes) |
I would say matz and I don't think it's too difficult a decision 0% Agree (0 votes) |
I've definitely considered Matz BUT he was lights out in the few games he's pitched plus it looks like the Mets are going to rest Harvey and Syndergard so Matz will definitely be getting starts. 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Shields or Matz for me. Shields has been better lately, but he'd probably be my bench guy. 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Do you guys trust Pineda? This guy could blow up on you. He was better during the season. I would rather roll the dice with Matz and McCullers. Would like to see McCullers pitch well again. This is an interesting topic. I have a weak top side due to key injuries to Wainwright and injuries to Strasburg. Lost Ottavino and Grilli to injuries. The decision here could be the difference between a championship or falling by the wayside early during the playoffs. I'm thinking of carrying 11 SP and RPs. How important is SIERA and xFIP? You get some interesting lists going by SIERA. Michael Wacha Stephen Strasburg Carlos Martinez Jaime Garcia Noah Syndergaard Taylor Jungmann Huston Street Ken Giles Roberto Osuna Luke Gregerson Aaron Nola (streaming) On the wire is... SP Francisco Liriano (!) - burn a waiver tonight (?) Steven Matz Lance McCullers AJ Burnett DL Mike Leake Michael Pineda Kyle Hendricks Andrew Heaney RP Carson Smith 0% Agree (0 votes) |
I've been looking at the trend lines and I have to agree that Matz is the guy to drop. He would have to turn it around in a short period of time and that is tough on a rookie and he's coming back from injury. Would be on an innings limit. OTOH Pineda is trending up again. In real life, if you had to get a win he may blow up on you but he could put up a few quality starts for fantasy down the stretch. 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Siera and xfip are better indicators of performance than era, whip or wins are 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Going off of SIERA and xFIP it looks like Kazmir is my worst pitcher and Pineda is one of my best? SIERA xFIP Felix Hernandez 3.31 3.28 Dallas Keuchel 2.78 2.70 Johnny Cueto 3.61 3.64 ?Micheal Pineda 2.92 2.78 Francisco Liriano 3.50 3.29 ?Hisashi Iwakuma 3.52 3.44 ?Lance McCullers 3.57 3.52 Scott Kazmir 3.86 3.80 ?James Shields 3.54 3.54 Luis Severino Not enough IP ?Steven Matz Not enought IP 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Are era, whip or wins a starting point? It sounds like the goal is to get better era, whip and wins, but one can't go by it. xFIP and SIERA are better indicators. Wins are another interesting stat in fantasy. It's the ultimate in reality, but it just counts as 1 pitcher point in fantasy. You can't count on a win as much as a quality start. I figure a quality start will help give you more of a chance for a win, but a good offensive showing that day can help, too. I'm still trying to figure out how to get less era and whip. It could mean using xFIP and SIERA to help fill out your roster. It could mean not pitching a guy like a RP or SP some days. 0% Agree (0 votes) |

I still say drop matz, we will see how he pitches today but I think most of his numbers are small sample sizes. The scourging reports I have read on him (Keith law and fangraphs) both have him as a back of the rotation starter 0% Agree (0 votes) |
Anyone know by any chance if they have football monster? 0% Agree (0 votes) |
There is no football monster, but feel free to check this thread for other football sites: https://baseballmonster.com/MessageTopic.aspx?topic=420 0% Agree (0 votes) |
I dropped Luis Severino because he faces some tough matchups along with the fact that he hasnt really gone past 90 pitches. I am also dropping James Shields to spot start Hendricks against PHI and Carlos Rodon. Couldnt get myself to drop Matz, thanks for the advice though!! 0% Agree (0 votes) |
