I'm a game out of first half way through the season, a team near the bottom proposed this trade to me. I'm essentially giving up a really good keeper for two amazing rentals. I'm not sure if I should take it, what do you guys think? Its obviously too early for this to guarantee anything, but I think it would make me the team to beat. That said I'd be giving up one of the better keepers in our league.

The trade - MY Cuddyer (17), Lynn (11) and Strasburg (19) for Kershaw (1), Longoria (2), Jansen (13) ... considering countering by switching Medlen in for Lynn

This is the third year of a 12 team league.

So, assuming you end up with three (1) players, you just don't pick for the first three rounds? In general, I'm all for securing talent right now to compete for this title. Too often in keeper leagues, people get attached to age and round discounts for the future and end up ensuring that they don't compete in the present.

Unfortunately I'd only get to hang on to a single first round pick (per the league rules).

This past year I did not keep anyone in the first round becasue my high draft position allowed me to redraft my first round pick anyway (Votto).

I've tried to move Strasburg for a bat with long term keeper value, but haven't had any luck. I do like Strasburg, but the small injuries that seem to keep popping up have me a bit nervous.

I would go for it...winning a title now is more important than what may happen next year, or the next. As was stated, some in a keeper tend to forget the win now mentality, and get too caught up in what may be 2-3 years down the road. I do of ocurse understand your delimma and or hesitation...but go for the title man. I fear if you don't, and come up slightly short, you may wonder what could have been.

I traded for David Wright and R.A. Dickey for the stretch run in my roto keeper last season, knowing at the time that I couldn't keep them for this season (expiring 3-year limits). I won my league. Of course, I'm not doing particularly well this season, but you can never take the W away from me big smile

The only reason I'm in position to make an impact this year is due to two miserable seasons before this; partly due to injuries (Joey Votto anyone) and partly due to poor decision making.

Unfortunately, my greed -- trying to put Medlen in for Lynn -- seems to have scuppered this deal.

I'm considering making a Strasburg + someone expendable offer for a rental of Cargo (rd. 1) and Cliff Lee (rd. 2). The team that owns 'em is probably too far behind to even grab a playoff spot and will likely be amenable to rebuilding even though there is still a lot of (fantasy) baseball left.
