second 2014 draft - auction

Did my first baseball auction draft, Yahoo pro 5x5 roto, and looked to execute my studs strategy of grabbing Trout, Cabrera, Kershaw and then filling with undervalued players identified on here.  Worked very well with Durant in basketball this year, even though i had to spend 48% of my auction budget on him.

Unfortunately, Cabrera and Trout got bid up, and I only got Cabrera -- at $69.  Ouch.  Kershaw was reasonable at $45.  Otherwise, I think I did well enough, and my team reads as a All-BBM Undervalued squad -- Beltran, Calhoun, Cuddyer, Hunter, Fister, Estrada, Wood.  I got locked out on closers, but that was original intent, and I'll hit the wire hard.  

The only pick I regret is Pedroia at $26, and learned a lesson there -- I may value positional scarcity but that doesn't mean the rest of the draft will, and there were value 2B picks later on.  Would rather have a top pitcher, and 2B in particular has value late.  In terms of Mauer, I looked at the catcher ranks and the only catchers indicating any value are the top 3 -- (e.g. Santana $16 average price, $8 value).  Wanted Rosario, but he got bid up.

I'm lopsided on batting average, and tend to end up that way using BBM as others don't value it sufficiently; I'll look to round that out with trades.  Runs as well.  I'll be dropping Bourn.

That looks like a pretty competitive auction. Getting Kershaw should keep your ERA and WHIP above water - will you be streaming pitcher? Closers must have been expensive. In my auction, I was able to get Kimbrel for about $15, but your crew seemed a little more sophisticated. It doesn't look like you'll be competing in SBs especially without Bourne. Is that the plan?

Yep, it was a $50 buy-in on Yahoo so the group was pretty sophisticated, save for a couple.  Kimbrel went for $25, difficult to find value until late in the draft.

Didn't intend to be uncompetitive for steals but guys who steal bases tend to be overvalued in Yahoo at least, and that's the way it panned out in my draft.  So I'll need to pull off some trades or find on the wire.
